Dr. Thomas Yates is the Director of the Leicester Lifestyle and Health Research Group and co-lead of the Lifestyle Theme within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. His research focuses on how physical behaviours—ranging from sleep and physical activity to nutrition—can be leveraged as therapeutic strategies for the prevention and management of obesity and chronic disease.
In recent years, Dr. Yates has led innovative research utilizing adaptive clinical trial designs to explore how physical behaviours can work synergistically with new generations of weight-loss medications to preserve muscle mass, fitness, and functional capacity.
He has published more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and holds several prestigious research grants, including funding from Research England through the Expanding Excellence in England (E3) award.
