Dr. Kamlesh Khunti is Professor of Primary Care Diabetes and Vascular Medicine at the University of Leicester, UK. He is Director of Leicester Diabetes Centre, Director of the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in Applied Research Collaborations (ARC) East Midlands, Director of Centre for Ethnic Health Research and Director of The Real-World Evidence Unit. He was recently been appointed as Director of the first NIHR Global Health Research Centre for Multiple Long-Term Conditions and Co lead for the Cross NIHR Collaboration for Multiple Long-Term Conditions. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, an NIHR Senior Investigator (Emeritus) and Member, Academia Europaea. He is Senior Vice President of European Association of Study of Diabetes. He has published over 1700 peer-reviewed articles and has been named as Top Type 2 diabetes researcher globally by Expertscape for the past 8 years. Has won numerous awards nationally and internationally including Mary MacKinnon Lecture Award, Diabetes UK Arnold Bloom Award RCGP James Mackenzie Award, International Lilly Leonard Award for Diabetes Research, Primary Care Diabetes Society Lifetime Achievement Award, Diabetes Philippines Augusto D. Litonjua Endowed Lecture Award, ‘Primary Care Diabetes Europe Paul Cromme Award, William Harvey Award and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Award for Excellence in Medical Research, India. He is also Honorary Visiting Professorial Fellow with Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne. He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2022 New Year’s Honour’s List for services to health.
